Healthier Home in 2010

I guess it's that time of year. Time to make New Year's resolutions. Hopefully this time I won't break it by Janaury 2.

Since this blog is about clean homes, I suppose my resolution making should start there. So, here it is. I'm going to make my home a healthier place, and here's how I'll do it.

1. I'll confess to having forgotten to change my furnace filter to the point where the furnace simply stopped working. That won't happen any more. By the way, the pleated filters are far superior even though they can be pricey.

2. I'm going to vacuum my home at least twice a week -- more often during allergy season. Fortunately, our central vacuum system takes all of the pollen, allergens and dust it captures completely out of the house.

3. I'm going to get rid of the toxic chemicals that are filling up my garage by taking advantage of a Household Hazardous Waste collection program this spring.

I welcome any of your suggestions.

  1. I like your list. I am also doing things that will reduce my carbon foot print. I have stopped using my dryer and dry all my clothes on clothes drying racks. I also cook in my microwave, toaster oven, or crock pot unless the stove/oven is the ONLY way. I also am cutting my grass with a reel mower instead of a gas one.

  3. They're comfortable, aren't too thin or too heavy. great for a hot day, or a cool breeze. They come in many colors to choose from, last a long time, and are usually on sale. All of the shirts are made in Canada and are a far better quality than the majority of other places.

  4. It's good to have a good plan for the next year. Maybe planning all the cleaning one year in advance would be very hard a thing to do. Compliments from End of Tenancy Cleaning London

  7. it is nice one. great information We change our filter every 4-6 months but try to clean in between. I think it does make a difference though. I think it’s more important in the summer time. If you have central heat and air, it’s also important to keep the grass cut away from your outside unit. They typically pull air in at the bottom, so they will use more energy if there is debris in the way. http://www.airsponge.com

  8. Of course we think purchasing a dust collector, filtration system or other products for air purification are a great idea. But mostly just pay attention to the air in your home...you can't see it so it's easy to forget it.

  13. Vacuum your home twice a week is perfect. As a professional cleaner I advise my clients to vacuum their home at least once in a year.

  14. Most pro cleaners swear by vacuuming on a regular basis. There is all kinds of debris that accumulate that cannot be seen by the naked eye.

  19. Dirt is a enemy. No matter how much time you spend cleaning it will always return. I set a cleaning schedule and keep with it. That is the only way to manage the situation.

  25. Your carpet should be vacuumed frequently and cleaned professionally every 6-12 months, depending on the amount of traffic it experiences. If you have something spill on your carpet and it is due for a professional clean, it is suggested that you leave removing the stain to the carpet cleaning professional as they will know the best method for removal, without damaging your carpet or its underlying base.
